STUDENT MINISTRY

CURRENT is a unique weekly gathering for students 6th-12th grade from 5:30-7:30 pm on Thursday Nights. “Current” (like a river current) Like a river, Our students are moving closer and closer to adulthood each day. The current never stops moving downstream. It can either be a flooded river that’s out of control or one within its boundaries, strong and useful. We want our teens to be impactful in their communities showing God’s love for themselves and others.

Our students learn about God’s love for them and their community by studying the Bible, hanging out with one another, celebrating at Fun Nights, and serving in the community together!

We want them to know who God is and fall in love with Him. The next phase of their journey is to know what God thinks of them and who he made them to be. We want them to love themselves as God does. The last phase of the journey is to take what they have learned about God and themselves out into the world. We want to help them learn how they will love, serve, and impact their neighborhood and community. We want them to love others. This is all based on Matthew 22:37-39, “Love God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Hope you will join us on Thursday nights at Fellowship Hi-Crest at 5:30 pm at 455 SE Golf Park Blvd, Topeka, KS 66605.

BECOME A SMALL GROUP LEADER
Are you passionate about building relationships with students and walking alongside them in their faith? We would love for you to be a part of our CURRENT small group leader team! Our small group leaders are the primary relational connection for our students at Current. As a small group leader, you will shepherd and disciple the students in your group, modeling faith in Christ and sharing life with them. We would love to help you get connected in our ministry! Email Brail Watson if you have an interest in serving in Student Ministries.

The Bridge Builder Club is a program where financial mentors partner with the Current Youth Ministry monthly to teach the youth ages 6th through 12th grade about finance and investing. The mentors will interact with the youth during the Thursday night youth group once a month.

  • When: Every 3rd Thursday during CURRENT.
    • Starting January 19, 2023
    • 5:30pm – 7:30pm
  • Where: 455 SE Golf Park Blvd, Topeka, KS 66605

The youth will learn finance basics, the DRIP method and using ETFs, and growth investing. The youth will start with a nest egg of $5,000. After learning the basics of finance and investing, the youth will get to help direct the investment of their nest egg. Each quarter they will get to make adjustments to their strategy with the approval of their coaching. At the end of their 12th-grade year, the students will split a specified amount of their proceeds above the next egg that they have earned. The money would go towards scholarships to college and tech schools for students taking those next steps. Students entering the workforce directly after high school graduation would have an investment account of their own created.

Fellowship Hi-Crest is taking a long-term approach where the hope is to interact with youth twelve times each year for six years. The hope is that instead of helping students climb out of debt, we teach them how to build personal wealth that prevents them from entering debt. While many of us know the joy of overcoming debt to build positive personal net worth, our hope is to build a bridge where the youth who follow us won’t have to traverse the same obstacles as we did but can learn from our journeys.
